New Music Review #3: ‘Out For Blood’ by Wildheart

Rampaging and brutal, Wildheart have something to say and they will not be ignored.

Sick of the capitalist establishment’s callous and wholly inadequate response to the suffering of ordinary people through the pandemic, the band’s overwhelming fury is felt in every beat of ‘Out For Blood’.

Imagine if the end of Fight Club was a song. It’s less of a protest march and more of a dead sprint, like if the Occupy Movement looked more like The Purge.

If you’re into Architects, Hellions or Alpha Wolf, this ferocious Queensland hardcore outfit will be right up your alley.

‘Out For Blood’ is propulsive and pulverising right from the start, and it doesn’t really let up. The hook, ‘We rise, we fight, shoulder to shoulder’, is reminiscent of early Rage Against The Machine, and it will get your heart racing and your blood bubbling.

The track pulsates with visceral, anarchic energy. It’s loud, and earth-shakingly heavy. It’s awesome.

Their debut album, Global Crisis, is out today. It should be a hell of a statement, if this is anything to go by.

And a few others:

‘NO. ID’ by Yibby  feat. Black Josh: Super bouncy (and unexpectedly philosophical) rhymes from Sydney hip-hop artist Yibby, over a lively, colourful beat. Manchester MC Black Josh drops in for one of the freshest guest verses of the year.

'You’re Not Alone' by Brain Flowers: A new collab project between Aussie dance music legend Nick Littlemore and up-and-comer Butter Bath. It’s exactly the sparkling, inspiring, wonderful slice of electronica you’d expect.

'If I Called Tonight' by Audition Tape: A lush, super danceable synth-pop banger. Energetic and atmospheric, upbeat and melancholic – if you like CHVRCHES, you’ll love this.
