New Music Review #12: ‘DELETE MY HISTORY (ctrl+alt+delete)’ by Lola Scott
One of the most delightful developments in music over the past five years has been watching pop music spiral uncontrollably beyond the boundaries of its own long-held conventions.
Singular, genre-defying artists like Doja Cat and Lil Nas X top the global charts, unapologetically re-shaping pop in their own bizarre images. Closer to home, artists like Montaigne, G Flip and Remi Wolf are doing their own thing and crushing it.
Lola Scott looks set to join that illustrious company.
‘DELETE MY HISTORY’ is a super fun, dynamic indie pop track about navigating the rollercoaster of modern dating.
Her razor sharp tongue peppers the track with freshness and wit, as she sings of moving forward and finding someone who knows and respects your worth.
Musically, it’s breezy and carefree with a gentle bop. Lyrically, it’s clever, funny and pointed. Vocally, Scott is a supreme new talent.
It all adds up to a new, vibrant face on the Aussie pop scene, and one I can’t wait to see more of.
And a few others:
‘Camp Dog’ by King Stingray: The 2020s have been, so far, a pretty rubbish decade. But King Stingray have been a rare bright spot. ‘Camp Dog’ is another brilliant, endlessly listenable folk-rock ditty. They don’t miss.
‘Pinned To An Avalanche' by Mouse: Bright, sunny, guitar-heavy indie punk, with a kickass chorus. If you like British India, Hockey Dad or Skegss, give this a spin.
‘Deathtouch' by Gravemind: A gargantuan wall of noise, an auditory tsunami bearing down on you and offering to wash your pain and emotions into the ocean.
