New Music Review #11: ‘In Your Dreams’ by Jadu Jadu & Tambala (feat YTK)

This song is absolute vibe.

Every single element of it is just gorgeous. To describe a song with this title as being “dreamy” feels like a real hack move, but honestly, it’s hard to think of a word that fits it more perfectly.

The production is somehow both lush and minimalistic, creating an atmosphere of ease and contemplation. It feel like you sinking deeper and deeper into the world’s most comfortable mattress over the course of three minutes.

It’s mellow, wistful, and smooth as hell.

Dishing dimes all over the track is the softly spoken Baltimore rapper YTK, who has been on the way up since his debut in 2019.

His flow is warm and understated, adding to feeling of subtle luxuriousness. He brings clever rhymes and dynamic rhyme schemes, but he never once threatens to overwhelm – wouldn’t want to disrupt the vibe.

Finally, the chorus, which is sung in a stunning falsetto and elevates the song into the cloud. Good luck coming down off this high.

And a few others:

‘Sick To My Stomach' by merci, mercy: An absolute knockout chorus, addressing loneliness, sadness and self-destruction in a way that is both lyrically raw and musically undeniably catchy. One of 2022’s best so far.

‘Nothing On’ by Slowly Slowly: Hedging closer to lead singer Ben Stewart’s solo project Congrats than a casual listener of Slowly Slowly might be ready for, this energetic, dance-tinged track skillfully pushes the band’s boundaries while retaining their spirit.

'White Mercedes’ by Mason Dane: Mason Dane’s come-up has been remarkable – the Newcastle rapper who impressed T-Pain and now finds himself flying to LA and Atlanta to hang out with hip hop moguls. This one features some really nice production, and a Drake-like vocal.
